Another open letter, this one very short

Dear ESPN:

College football does not "tide us over." It's our reason for being. Stop packing your college broadcasts with ads that imply we're a bunch of drooling idiots who willingly ignore two whole days packed with football because we just can't wait for the pageantry and sportstainment content that comes along with "Monday Night Football" the TV show, institution and religion. It's just one more football game at the end of a long weekend filled with them, no matter how loud Chris Berman bellows.

And another thing: No one actually looks forward to it because it means the weekend is over and we have to go back to work. Monday night games are, at best, the digestif after our weekend of football gorging, a postprandial cognac in front of the fire, the third cookie you take because the second one was so delicious.

Also, I don't have kids, and neither do my neighbors. So fuck off out of it.

Regards,

Flop

ABC/ESPN have apparently decided that they want all college football fans to hate them and their broadcasts.

And also -- wow I hate Notre Dame. I hope that my many friends who couldn't find it in themselves to pull for Michigan State are enjoying the media narrative.

Due to the last 36 hours of extreme socializing, I'm just now getting around to watching College Football Final. Lou Holtz: Good God. My parents taught me never to mock the elderly or the mentally disabled, but for a man with such strong opinions he sure struggles to lisp out a coherent thought. His bickering wiith Mark May is like an Algonquin Roundtable written by seventh-grade intramural cornerbacks with cortex problems.

And still -- still -- as wretched as this is, he remains superior to the departed Trev Alberts. How hard must it be for ESPN to find articulate, insightful on-air talent? Buckeye or no, i vote for turning the whole shebang over to Herbstreit.

It is such an idiotic campaign, even complete idiots should be insulted by it.

Flop and I are two such complete idiots.

Meanwhile, ABC's MNF ad line about having to work on Saturday hits a little too close to home to be cute.

You're telling me. I posted that from work.
