A fine whine

I've just upped the difficulty level in NCAA Football, and am re-learning the passing game as a result. I've been trying to slowly wean myself from the gunslinger mentality, in which I figure I can force the ball into the tiniest gaps, because I'm sweet like that.

I just threw an interception right at a linebacker I meant to throw the ball over. Why? I read the safeties wrong. Or, rather, I didn't put enough air under the ball because I thought the umpire was a safety, even though that guy was distracted by the three freaking wideouts I had to that side. Alas, it's now SMU ball, first and 10.

Um, also, I re-read Nick Flynn's Some Ether last week, lest you think I'm a mouthbreathing meathead, posting about video games while my co-blogger puts up essays about recapturing youth under Latin headlines and long treatises about dactylic hexameter.

Also, Seamus Heaney is the tits, I met him once, and I was very happy to see him show up on EDSBS. Which is also the tits.

So you're a renaissance mouthbreathing meathead?

sorry flop, but the demonstrated ability to merely read does not automatically make you cultured in comparison to c-notes.

first, you'll need to offer some deep personal introspect about how a generational divide has unexpectedly thrust itself upon you, summed up in a neat retelling of the events leading to your most recent hangover.

you should follow this up by reading some over-written but ancient piece of what is essentially a trashy beach read, then offer a discussion, sprinkled with pop culture references and mixed with analysis of literary form. if your efforts draw an unprompted marriage proposal via the internet, you may consider it personal validation and at long last claim your newfound non-meathead status.

Wow -- way to discourage Flop from posting.

Can we agree that he's not a meathead? More of a chucklehead. It's a subtle but important distinction.

I can agree on the chucklehead status. Flop really is no meathead, but there are a ton of jokes about that word... meathead.

Wait, I didn't read this post before...I just assumed it was referring to whiny Lloyd Carr...

Given that Lloyd has effectively declined to comment, it's kind of dishonest to tag him as a whiner.

Oh, wait, I just found this extremely whiny comment:

"The Rose Bowl is not a consolation — it is the greatest tradition in college football," he said. "I've always felt that there's no better experience for a college football player than to play in the Rose Bowl."

Dude, seriously. WTF?

“I think it’s going to be a great controversy, I don’t care who gets selected,” Carr said, “because I just think that based on some of the comments the Florida coach has made in the last two weeks — campaigning strenuously for a berth in the championship game — and making some statements about Michigan that I think were inappropriate."

I just feel bad that Coach Grandpa Simpson thinks somebody said bad things about him...

Yeah, very whiny. These statements were made before the final rankings were announced, and it's not like the results have been controversial or anything.

Lloyd's only mistake was not whining enough.

Lloyd's triumph was not whining enough.

Both of those last two statements are accurate. None of Crunk Raconteur's are.
